Ithaca’s movie history is featured in the new Southern Tier Welcome Center in Kirkwood on Interstate 81 which officially re-opened in early October 2017 after a large-scale renovation! Over the summer, WSM was contacted about contributing to the welcome center’s Artifacts Wall and submitted a framed black and white still photograph of the Wharton Studio, as well as footage of a film shot in Ithaca to be played on a small screen as part of the exhibit. The new center focuses on NYS products, as well as history and destinations one can discover while visiting the region. Wonderful that Ithaca’s silent movie history is being highlighted. Scheduling prevented us from being at the ribbon-cutting but we hope to visit soon!
